Materials Needed For Making the Crochet Bookmark
Before we dive into the pattern, let’s gather everything you’ll need:
- Embroidery floss in your chosen colors (two for the flower and ofcourse green for the stem)
- Crochet hook (I feel 1.75 mm matches well with embroidery floss, however you can experiment with hooks between 1-2 mm)
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Thus by having all these materials ready, you’ll ensure a smooth and enjoyable crafting experience.
Flower Bookmark Crochet Pattern
- Flower Center (Round 1):
- Begin with a magic ring (mr).
- Make 12 single crochets (sc) into the mr.
- Then slip stitch (sl st) into the first sc to close the round.
- Finally chain 1 (ch1) and cut the yarn.
- Flower Petals (Round 2):
- Attach a new color (Color 2) with a sl st into any stitch (st) from Round 1.
- Petal 1: Chain 3 (ch3), make 3 double crochets (dc) in the next st, ch3, then sl st into the following st. The first petal is complete.
- Petal 2: Start with ch3, then 3 dc in the next st, ch3, and sl st into the following st.
- Repeat this process for a total of 6 petals.
- After completing the final petal, sl st into the first sc from Round 1, where you started Round 2.
- Chain 1 (ch1) and cut the yarn.
- Stem and Leaves:
- Using green yarn for the stem, sl st into the same st of Round 1 where you began Round 2.
- Chain 35 (ch35). Place a stitch marker in the last chain to mark it.
- Leaf 1: Chain 6 (ch6). Starting from the second chain from the hook, work the following stitches: sl st, 1 sc, (1 hdc, 1 dc), (1 dc, 1 hdc), 1 sc. Then, sl st into the same chain where the stitch marker is placed.
- Leaf 2: Repeat the leaf instructions by chaining 6 (ch6) and following the same sequence as Leaf 1. Sl st into the marked chain to complete the second leaf.
- Finally, sl st in each of the remaining 34 chains until you reach the starting point where the stem begins at Round 1.
- Chain 1 (ch1) and cut the yarn. Weave in all loose ends.
Your beautiful flower bookmark is now ready to use!
Tips and Suggestions for Making the Crochet Bookmark
To enhance your crocheting experience, consider these tips:
- Make sure to use a crochet hook that matches the thickness of your yarn to achieve the best results.
- For a cleaner finish, weave in any loose ends as you go to avoid a tangled mess later.
- If you’re new to crocheting petals then take your time to ensure each one is evenly spaced and shaped.
